WHITTINGTON CASTLE

WHITTINGTON CASTLE
Photo Andrew Tivenan

A manor house fortified in 1219 with keep and towers and originally protected by a moat and earthworks. The twin towered gatehouse remains, but much of the stone was removed after the castle was slighted in the Civil War. The motte may be a later viewing platform.

The castle is being preserved by the Whittington Castle Preservation Trust - see link below - help them if you can.
