A motte and bailey built into an Iron Age hillfort and locally known as Danes Camp. The mound is 90 feet diameter and 20 feet high surrounded by a ditch and bank inside tha bailey and outer rampart. It was possibly a campaign castle of the Norman Conquest, but was probably only used for a short time.
