HAUGHLEY CASTLE

The 11th century castle was destroyed in 1173 and the site abandoned. The motte is one of the largest in the country at 80 foot wide and 80 foot high with traces of stonework, but is now very overgrown. A house has been built inside the bailey, near the church.
