Black Rock

In the historic county of Radnorshire (Modern authority of Powys, preserved county of Powys).

Nothing known of castle mentioned by Harvey. Black rock is a common place name though no Black Rock placename appears in Powys in the OS gazetteer. Craig Ddu is also fairly common and is the name of a hill near Rhayader which overlooks the road in a narrow pass and is close to a Roman marching camp at SN924698. Remfry writes (pers corr) this is probably the Blackwood enclosure site at Trewern (qv)
