Castell Du, Sennybridge

Also known as, or recorded in historical documents as; Castell Ddu; Castell Rhyd y Briw; Black Castle

In the community of Maescar.
In the historic county of Brecknockshire (Modern authority of Powys, preserved county of Powys).

Only fragments of the south wall of a courtyard with a projecting round tower about 7.8m in diameter now survive of C13 castle, alternately known as Castell Rhyd-Y-Briw. This may have been the castle begun by Llywelyn ap Gruffydd in 1262, and in 1271 was occupied by his ally Einion Sais.

This site has been described as a;
Masonry Castle.
The confidence that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Certain.
Masonry ruins/remnants remains.

This site is a scheduled monument protected by law.
