Waun Ddu, Myddfai

In the community of Myddfai.
In the historic county of Carmarthenshire (Modern authority of Carmarthenshire, preserved county of Dyfed).

This monument is interpreted as a Roman fortlet, or temporary camp), 30m square internally, which has had a medieval motte constructed over the N corner. This 'motte', which has a base diameter of 30m, summit diameter of 15m and is 1.3m high, is essentially undated, save by its relationship to the underlying camp. In turn the enclosure may have been modified by the construction of the motte, any diagnostic features, such as multiple entrances, may have been lost. Suggested as an outpost guarding mountain road.

This site has been described as a;
Timber Castle.
The confidence that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Possible.
Earthworks remains.

This site is a scheduled monument protected by law.
