In 1340 April 9, Giles de Bello Campo (Giles de Beauchamp) was granted, by Edward III, (In year 14 of his reign) a Royal licence to crenellate Alcestre (Beauchamps Court, Alcester)

The wording of this licence is;

"Grant, of special grace, to Giles de Bello Campo, and his heirs, of free warren in all their demense lands of Alcestre, co. Warwick; with further grant that they may fortify the house (mansum) of their manor of Alecestre with a wall of stone and mortar and crenellate it and so hold it without impediment of the king and his ministers."

Granted at Westminster, by privy seal.
