In 1329 Jan 25, Willielmus le Caleys [Galeys] (William Galeys) was granted, by Edward III, (In year 3 of his reign) a Royal licence to crenellate Walle (Wall, Herefordshire)

"Licence for William le Galeys to crenellate his dwelling house atte (mansum suum apud) Walle, co. Hereford."

Granted at St. Albans, by privy seal.

A licence to crenellate was granted to William Galeys in 1329. I can find no reference to a William Galeys, There are numerous possible Wall placenames such as Walford or Craswall.

(In fact, the original source given is usually a transcription/translation of what are precious medieval documents not readily availably. It should be noted that these transcription/translations often date to the nineteenth or early twentieth centuries and that unwitting bias of transcribers may affect the translation. Care should also be taken to avoid giving modern meaning to the medieval use of certain stock words and terms.)
