In 1328 Sept 16, Simon de Drayton (Sir Simon Drayton) was granted, by Edward III, (In year 2 of his reign) a Royal licence to crenellate Drayton (Drayton House)

"Licence for Simon de Drayton to crenellate his dwelling house of Drayton, co. Northampton, to impark 30 acres in his manor (mansum) of Drayton, and to hold the premises in fee simple."

Granted at Wisbech, by privy seal.

(In fact, the original source given is usually a transcription/translation of what are precious medieval documents not readily availably. It should be noted that these transcription/translations often date to the nineteenth or early twentieth centuries and that unwitting bias of transcribers may affect the translation.
