In 1316, Alicia de Leyegrave (Alice de Leygrave) was supposedly granted, by Edward II, (In year 9 of his reign) a Royal licence to crenellate Torneston (Torweston Manor, Sampford Brett)

The wording of this licence is;

"mansum suum"

Although this document has been considered by some as a licence to crenellate the current opinion rejects this as a licence to crenellate.


Although Parker list this separately from the licence to the same place granted to Adam le Bret, at the request of Alice de Leyegrave, I can not find a separate entry in the rolls and I conclude that somehow Parker has managed to duplicate the entry.
