Bere Regis Palace

Also known as, or recorded in historical documents as; Court Green; Court Farm

In the civil parish of Bere Regis.
In the historic county of Dorset (Modern Authority of Dorset, 1974 county of Dorset).

Tradition of castle of King John here. Actually form of King John's residence here but may have been semi-fortified. Record in PastScape as "Royal Palace - built 1201-4, last mentioned 1229 (not located)" Court Farm is seperately recorded as "A manorial settlement at Court farm. The Manor House was standing prior to 1587 and demolished around 1830. Its foundations remain as earthworks. The settlement also includes a fishponds, outbuildings and a granary." Location, name and existence of high status features makes identification of King John Palace with Court Farm highly probable.
