Mexborough Castle Hill

In the civil parish of Mexborough.
In the historic county of Yorkshire West Riding (Modern Authority of Doncaster, 1974 county of South Yorkshire).

Medieval motte and bailey castle, damaged by landscape gardening. The truncated motte is 52ft high above the ditch and the bailey is surrounded by a bank 6ft in height. The ditch surrounding the motte and bailey is 50ft wide. Although mutilated most of these features were present during field investigation in 1965.

This site has been described as a;
Timber Castle.
The confidence that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Certain.
Earthworks remains.

This site is a scheduled monument protected by law.
