Langford Barton, Ugborough

In the civil parish of Ugborough.
In the historic county of Devon (Modern Authority of Devon, 1974 county of Devon).

Medieval earthwork occupying an eastward projecting spur south of Langford Barton. The castle mound, some 46m in diameter and almost perfectly circular, consists of a prominent ring-mound formed by the cutting of a ditch through the natural spur. Although refered to as an apparantly mutilated motte some sites do not easliy fall into the category of either motte or ringwork and this site displays characteristics of both motte and ringwork. Higham suggested damaged or unfinished.

This site has been described as a;
Timber Castle.
The confidence that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Certain.
Earthworks remains.

This site is a scheduled monument protected by law.
