Newbiggin Pele, Heighington

Also known as, or recorded in historical documents as; Newbigging; Heighton

In the civil parish of Heighington.
In the historic county of Durham; County Palatinate of (Modern Authority of Darlington, 1974 county of County Durham).

"The old house of Newbiggin stands low, near some wild broken ground, with a brook or runner in front. The walls are of solid masonry, and the chief staircase of stone. There are, or were, the remains of something like a peal or tower on the west {?}." "The remains of a Pele or tower on the west are now taken down" From Makenenzie and Ross. OS archaeologist reported an oral record of a building pulled down at the grid reference c.1904, with very narrow windows, which may have been the remains of a pele.

The confidence that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Possible.
