Ulverston Castle

In the civil parish of Ulverston.
In the historic county of Lancashire (Modern Authority of Cumbria, 1974 county of Cumbria).

King writes nothing known of castle listed by Harvey. Gilbert Fitz Reinfrid obtained the manor in 1127 but 'there are neither appearances, nor written evidences, nor tradition to justify an opinion that either this Gilbert or any of his successors ever erected a castle at Ulverston.'(Mannex's directory of Furness and Cartmel, 1882). However note Neville Hall a presumed pele tower at SD284784 not mentioned by King. Harvey gives no details so his Ulverston castle might be a reference to this pele tower or to an earlier presumed castle.

This site has been described as a;

This site is rejected as a medieval fortification or palace.
