Rockcliffe Castle

Also known as, or recorded in historical documents as; Rokele; Rokclife; Rocliffe; Rowcliffe

In the civil parish of Rockcliffe.
In the historic county of Cumberland (Modern Authority of Cumbria, 1974 county of Cumbria).

No remains of early C16 site described by Leland as "a pretty Pile or Castle of the Lord Dakers" rebuilt in circa1607 and demolished in circa1659. The site is now largely under a road. Foundations and a courtyard pavement were revealed during road widening in 1901. A tower house rather than a pele tower. Shown on Aglionby's "Platt" of 1590.
