Greystoke Castle

Also known as, or recorded in historical documents as; Grey Stock; Craystock; Craystok; Greistock

In the civil parish of Greystoke.
In the historic county of Cumberland (Modern Authority of Cumbria, 1974 county of Cumbria).

Castle, the licence to crenellate given to William, baron of Greystoke, in 1353. Mostly destroyed in 1648 by General Lambert's army but enlarged and altered in 1789 and restored in 1840. One square tower and one wall of another square tower, of quadrangular castle, incorporated into C18 building.

This site has been described as a;
Masonry Castle.
The confidence that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Certain.
Masonry ruins/remnants remains.

A Royal licence to crenellate was granted in 1353 Oct 5.
