Darnhall

In the civil parish of Darnhall.
In the historic county of Cheshire (Modern Authority of Cheshire, 1974 county of Cheshire).

"Darnhall one was of the manor-houses belonging to the Earldom of Chester. It was here that in 1237 the last earl died, thus bringing his estates into the possession of the Crown. The hall, chambers and other buildings were kept in repair at the king's expense until in 1254 they passed to the Lord Edward together with the other Chester estates. In 1270 Edward gave Darnhall to the Order of Citeaux as the site for a new abbey, and the buildings were either demolished or adapted to monastic purposes"(HKW).
