Milby

Also known as, or recorded in historical documents as; Low Dinsdale

In the civil parish of Milby.
In the historic county of Yorkshire North Riding (Modern Authority of North Yorkshire, 1974 county of North Yorkshire).

Butler writes "one might expect an earthwork castle near Milby on the north bank of the Ure opposite Aldborough, but there is now no visible evidence." Presumably Butler is considering this because this would be the northern bank of the Ure at the place the Roman Dere Street crossed. I don't personally follow Butler's expectation and I can see no particular reason why there would be a castle here when Aldborough (qv) covers the crossing point.

This site has been described as a;
Timber Castle.
The confidence that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Questionable.
Nothing visible remains.
