Brampton

In the civil parish of Brampton.
In the historic county of Huntingdonshire (Modern Authority of Cambridgeshire, 1974 county of Cambridgeshire).

Former royal residence and hunting lodge at Brampton documented in the reign of Henry, extant in 1251, but destroyed by floods by 1348. A favourite residence of Henry I, but largely ignored by the Plantagenet Kings. King John granted it to David, Earl of Huntingdon in 1202. The hall and other buildings are documented there in 1251, but it was stated in 1348 that it been destroyed by floods.
