Durham House
Also known as, or recorded in historical
documents as; Durham Place
In the civil parish of Westminster.
In the historic county of Middlesex (Modern Authority of London Borough of Westminster, 1974 county of Greater London).
London Inn of the Bishop of Durham. Built by Bishop Hatfield (1345-81) in Westminster at Charing Cross, by riverside. Durham House passed to the Crown in 1536 and was, thereafter, used for diplomatic entertainment and lodging. Most of the ancient buildings were pulled down in 1660 and in 1769-70 the Adelphi was built on the site.
