In the civil parish of Highnam.
In the historic county of Gloucestershire (Modern Authority of Gloucestershire, 1974 county of Gloucestershire).

Site of a medieval house constructed by the Abbots of Gloucester, enlarged and moated c 1384-1412. Used as bishops palace from 1540 until 1643. Civil War earthworks. Well sited to control crossing of Roman road over River Severn. I would ask why such a strategic site was not fortified.

This site has been described as a;
Palace.
The confidence that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Possible.
Earthworks remains.
