Bishops Sutton Bishops Palace

In the civil parish of Bishops Sutton.
In the historic county of Hampshire (Modern Authority of Hampshire, 1974 county of Hampshire).

Manor held by Bishop of Winchester from 1136. In 1551-52 manor house described as very old house, once walled, now decayed; an old pond or moat adjoins it. Within the memory of persons still living ruins of extensive building stood in meadows N of church. V thick walls of mortared flints. Conjectured that it was destroyed during Civil War. For many years all traces even of its ruins have entirely disappeared. Site indicated by roughly rectangular area of uneven ground, under pasture, c95mx85m. Fragments of building material visible at surface
