Berwick upon Tweed; The Palace

In the civil parish of Berwick upon Tweed.
In the historic county of Berwick upon Tweed (Modern Authority of Northumberland, 1974 county of Northumberland).

This is the site of the palace of Scottish kings from David I onwards. By 1560 it was used by the English governor of the town, but it was in very poor repair. It was probably rebuilt in the later C16. Nothing can be seen on the site today, though archaeologists saw the remains of stone walls at a depth of 3-4m in sewer trenches dug nearby.

This site has been described as a;
Palace.
The confidence that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Possible.
Nothing visible remains.
