Edgton Motte

In the civil parish of Edgton.
In the historic county of Shropshire (Modern Authority of Shropshire, 1974 county of Shropshire).

Sub-circular area approximately 50m across with encircling lanes in the centre of Edgton, close to the Church of St Michael. Earth and stone has been dumped downslope to the south in order to form a level platform from the bedrock which is apparent in the northern part of the area. Much of the area has been disturbed by C19 and C20 buildings. It is possible the site of a motte.

This site has been described as a;
Timber Castle.
The confidence that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Possible.
Earthworks remains.

This site is a scheduled monument protected by law.
