Cardurnock Tower

Also known as, or recorded in historical documents as; Castlesteads; Anthorn

In the civil parish of Bowness.
In the historic county of Cumberland (Modern Authority of Cumbria, 1974 county of Cumbria).

Vanished pele tower shown on Aglionby's "Platt" of 1590. PastScape record for a bastle reads “A tower is shown on the 1590 map by Burghley at Cardurnock. Site not located.” Jackson writes 'Castlesteads Fieldname possibly site of a medieval watch tower built over Roman Milecastle No5.' The PastScape record doesn't mention medieval occupation at the milecastle which was excavated in 1943-4. If there was medieval occupation then the milecastle does seem to be the most likely site for this tower.

This site has been described as a;
Bastle
Pele Tower
.
The confidence that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Possible.
Nothing visible remains.
