Burpham; The Burgh

In the civil parish of Burpham.
In the historic county of Sussex (Modern Authority of West Sussex, 1974 county of West Sussex).

Marked on map as Tumuli but produced a Norman cooking potsherd. Suggested as siegework to Arundel sieges of 1102 and/or 1138. PastScape record as Bronze Age Bowl Barrow and give details of supporting excavation and finds. No mention of Norman pottery. Medival occupation/use seems unlikely.

This site has been described as a;
Siege Work.
The confidence that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Questionable.
Cropmarks/slight earthworks remains.

This site is a scheduled monument protected by law.
