Otley; The Mount

Also known as, or recorded in historical documents as; Otley Barrow

In the civil parish of Otley.
In the historic county of Suffolk (Modern Authority of Suffolk, 1974 county of Suffolk).

Motte and possible several baileys. The motte is a large sub-circular mound about 50m in diameter at the bae reducing to 37m at the top and 4m high. This is surounded by a ditch up to 18m wide and 1m deep. The bailey was probably to the south west, there is no sign of it except possibly a curving hedgerow to the west. Finds recovered includem medieval pottery, key, spearhead, coins and buckles.

This site has been described as a;
Timber Castle.
The confidence that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Certain.
Earthworks remains.

This site is a scheduled monument protected by law.
