Ingleby Barwick Round Hill

In the civil parish of Ingleby Barwick.
In the historic county of Yorkshire North Riding (Modern Authority of Stockton on Tees, 1974 county of Cleveland).

Round Hill is a grass covered mound, 33.5m in diameter, 4.2m high on the south west and 1.7m high on the north east side. The perimeter has been mutilated, possibly by excavations. The top of the mound has been levelled and is 7m in diameter. It has previously been interpreted as a round barrow, but current knowledge suggests it to be a Motte and Bailey castle.

This site has been described as a;
Timber Castle.
The confidence that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Certain.
Cropmarks/slight earthworks remains.

This site is a scheduled monument protected by law.
