Yoxall Town Hill

In the civil parish of Yoxall.
In the historic county of Staffordshire (Modern Authority of Staffordshire, 1974 county of Staffordshire).

Salter describes this as "Damaged moat by the bridge may go back to C13 when William Ferrers, Earl of Derby gave land to the clerk Roger de Yoxall.". I found a roughly circular enclosure, 50m diameter, with a dry v-shaped ditch evidence for motte unclear because of later rebuilding within the enclosure and garden landscaping but mound at rear of house may be eroded motte. Gardeners on the site reported finds of considerable amounts of cattle bones.

This site has been described as a;
Timber Castle
Fortified Manor House.
The confidence that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Possible.
Earthworks remains.
