Borrowdale Dyke

In the civil parish of Borrowdale.
In the historic county of Westmorland (Modern Authority of Cumbria, 1974 county of Cumbria).

1180 grant by Lancaster to Byland Abbey mentioned a 'plessicium' (slashed hedge) ' made on account of the Scots.' May be near Gateside, Green Yate and Hollow Gate (NY548030) north of Kendal or alternatively Breasthigh track and the Dyke near Tebay, although these placenames may refer to C14 park enclosure. A dyke or hedge at Hollowgate would block the road at a narrow pass and would be the most obvious location for a defensive work.

This site has been described as a;
Linear Defence or Dyke.
The confidence that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Possible.
