Audley Castle Hill

In the civil parish of Audley Rural.
In the historic county of Staffordshire (Modern Authority of Staffordshire, 1974 county of Staffordshire).

Medieval motte surviving as an earthwork. A low flat topped motte, 55m in diamter at the base, 40m across at the summit and from 4 to 2m in height. The ditch, reduced and spread by ploughing, encircling the motte on the north and east, is from 5 to 10m wide and 0.5m in depth. Excavations in 1914 revealed Medieval and post Medieval pottery and a coin of Edward the 1st or 2nd and one of George 3rd. The site is now a public open space. Recorded in 1272-3 and 1275, excavation has produced stonework.
