Taunton Town Defences
Also known as, or recorded in historical
documents as; East Overton, Borough Bank
In the civil parish of Taunton.
In the historic county of Somerset (Modern Authority of Somerset, 1974 county of Somerset).
The deserted Medieval settlement of East Overton, located within West Overton, which includes town defences known as Borough Bank, 70m north of St Mary Magdalene Church, located between Northgate and Eastgate in the north east part of Taunton. The borough defences were remodelled from 1215-1216. Partial excavations exposed the bank and ditch. The defences appear to have fallen into disuse from C14.
