Over Stowey Mound

In the civil parish of Over Stowey.
In the historic county of Somerset (Modern Authority of Somerset, 1974 county of Somerset).

Large flat mound N of the village may be a flat castle mound. The "old castle precinct" is referred to in the late C12 and may have been the caput of the estate of Alfred d'Epaignes in the later C11 and the precursor of the castle at Nether Stowey. Site surveyed, earthworks could be remains of an early castle, but evidence not compelling.

This site has been described as a;
Timber Castle.
The confidence that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Possible.
Earthworks remains.
