Pan Castle

In the civil parish of Whitchurch Urban.
In the historic county of Shropshire (Modern Authority of Shropshire, 1974 county of Shropshire).

Medieval motte and bailey castle surviving as an earthwork and a possible fishpond. The motte has a base diameter of 65m north to south and 80m east to west and a height of 3.8m. The flat summit is 45m north to south and 60m east to west. The encircling ditch is 10 to 15m wide and 1 to 1.5m deep. There is a counterscarp bank on the north and west sides 1.7m in height. The rectangular bailey to the south measures 170m east to west by 140m transversely. There is evidence for a fishpond in the south east corner of the bailey.

This site has been described as a;
Timber Castle.
The confidence that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Certain.
Earthworks remains.

This site is a scheduled monument protected by law.
