Alveley Castle placenames

Also known as, or recorded in historical documents as; Romsley

In the civil parish of Romsley.
In the historic county of Shropshire (Modern Authority of Shropshire, 1974 county of Shropshire).

Renn writes "Castelgrove Wood in Romsley is mentioned in 1209" Jackson writes that "Castlefield and Little Castlefield are fieldnames and may be conected with Castlefield (Romsley), a placename mentioned in 1209. There may be connection with the moated site at SO789832 and/or Castle Hill, 3km ESE." The moated site is a small 20m by 50m homestead moat and Jackson's Castle Hill is in Wolverley and Cookley CP, Worcestershire (SO81328204 qv).
NB there are two Romsleys in Shropshire, both have castle placenames.

This site has been described as a;
Timber Castle.
The confidence that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Questionable.
Nothing visible remains.
