Stephens Mount, Crowmarsh

Also known as, or recorded in historical documents as; Crowmarsh Gifford; Stephens Castle

In the civil parish of Crowmarsh.
In the historic county of Oxfordshire (Modern Authority of Oxfordshire, 1974 county of Oxfordshire).

Wallingford siege work of c1140. PastScape report as "Alleged Medieval, possibly C12, fortifications.A siege castle was built against Wallingford in 1139 and taken in 1153. Possibly a modern drainage ditch." None of the other sources have any question as to this being a seigework. Marked as 'Site of Fort' on 1883 OS map. Site now built over. A siege work across the river from Wallingford would be an obvious construction, even if not at this exact location.

The confidence that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Possible.
Nothing visible remains.
