Beaumont Castle, Mixbury

In the civil parish of Mixbury.
In the historic county of Oxfordshire (Modern Authority of Oxfordshire, 1974 county of Oxfordshire).

Earthworks of a probable defended timber hall with a double court. There is alleged to have been a motte on the site which was supposedly removed during amateur excavations in 1954-5. The field investigator in 1973 was sceptical of this assertion. 2 ditched and ramparted enclosures of C12 castle, fragments of masonry found and small mound may cover base of tower. Probably adandoned before 1216. The manor was granted to Oseney Abbey by Thomas de St Valery in 1213.
