Cuckney Castle Hill

In the civil parish of Cuckney.
In the historic county of Nottinghamshire (Modern Authority of Nottinghamshire, 1974 county of Nottinghamshire).

Medieval motte and bailey castle, built between 1135 and 1154, believed to be of adulterine origin (although this is questioned by Speight). A church now stands in what was the bailey and the churchyard has destroyed any internal features. It is thought, by some, that the castle was never completed.

This site has been described as a;
Timber Castle.

Cropmarks/slight earthworks remains.

This site is a scheduled monument protected by law.
