Lowick Tower

Also known as, or recorded in historical documents as; Bastle Corner; Lowyke; Lowicke; Lawkye

In the civil parish of Lowick.
In the historic county of Durham; North (Modern Authority of Northumberland, 1974 county of Northumberland).

Site of a tower which fell into ruin and was last mentioned in 1581 when repair was recommended and presumably not carried out. It was mentioned as standing in 1415, but was not new then. Suggested as built in second half of C14 and mentioned in a document of 1388. Rowland writes two towers stood at Lowick, one a vicar's pele. I presume this one would be the vicars pele and the other 'Lowick' tower was Holburn Tower (qv)

This site has been described as a;
Pele Tower.
The confidence that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Certain.
Nothing visible remains.
