Yeavering Tower

In the civil parish of Kirknewton.
In the historic county of Northumberland (Modern Authority of Northumberland, 1974 county of Northumberland).

PastScape report this as remains of a pre 1584 tower. King writes this is a village mismarked as a tower on the 1590 map but Dodds writes there was a tower near the farmhouse. SMR identify it as a long rectanular building with very thick walls, now used as farm outbuilding. Yeavering was the site of a C7 Saxon Royal Palace, but does not appear to have maintained it’s high status in the 2nd millenium.

This site has been described as a;
Bastle
Pele Tower
.
The confidence that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Certain.
Masonry footings remains.
