King writes 'An alleged castle or possible tower house was seen at Walwick by Camden in the late C16. There were no traces of a castle when the site was visited in 1956 and local residents have no knowledge of one.' Rejected by King as a Roman Fort. SMR report reads "All that is known about a tower at Walwick comes from a description by William Camden in C18 (sic). He made an itinerary of Hadrian's Wall and described 'remains of a considerable castle at Wallwick'." In Britannia Camden writes 'Inde post Carraw et Walton est Walsicke, Gallanam Antonini aliqui esse volunt, in quibus omnibus veterum munitionum sunt manifesta vestigia.' (Then, beyond Carraw and Walton, standeth Walwick, which some conjecturally would have to be Gallana in Antonine, in all which places there be evident remains of old fortifications). Implying Camden consider this Roman. William Camden 1551-1623. The 1715 survey reads "Walwick Grange ... in ye feild adjoyning where we Roman Wall crosses ye Tine are foun[dations] of a large castle" This must surely be Chesters Roman Fort (Cilvrnvm)
