Belling Pele, Kielder Water

Also known as, or recorded in historical documents as; Kielder Water

In the civil parish of Falstone.
In the historic county of Northumberland (Modern Authority of Northumberland, 1974 county of Northumberland).

Bastle at Belling dismantled before the flooding of the valley to create the reservoir, it stood close to a peninsula between the Belling and the dam, now submerged. Recorded as pele tower in PastScape and SMR. The records for this site are difficult to interpret. The map ref given is marked Belling Cottages on the 1866 OS map and probably was a bastle. It is also possible there was a pele tower on the Belling Crags. There are no remains and the 1866 map shows presumable quarry workings below the Crags so site probably lost.

This site has been described as a;
Bastle
Pele Tower
.
The confidence that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Certain.
Nothing visible remains.
