In the historic county of Northumberland (Modern Authority of Northumberland, 1974 county of Northumberland).
Tower, with moat and drawbridge, first mentioned in 1415, demolished in 1668 to make way for Robert Trollope designed, Baroque, Grade 1 listed house.
