Old Callaly Castle Hill
Also known as, or recorded in historical
documents as; Kaloule Vet
In the civil parish of Callaly.
In the historic county of Northumberland (Modern Authority of Northumberland, 1974 county of Northumberland).
Iron age hill fort possibly adapted into castle by rock cut ditch by the de Callaly family in C12 or C13. There may be remains of a tower in the north west corner.
This site has been described as a;
Timber Castle
Masonry Castle.
The confidence
that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Possible.
Earthworks remains.
This site is a scheduled
monument protected by law.
