Longheughshields Bastle, Bellingham

In the civil parish of Bellingham.
In the historic county of Northumberland (Modern Authority of Northumberland, 1974 county of Northumberland).

Longheughshield is a simple, single-storey, late C18, shepherd's cottage, surrounded by old walls which give it a strange sense of enclosure. Just west of the cottage lie the footings of another, much earlier building, most likely a C16 or C17 bastle on the strength of its general proportions and thickness of its walls. The highest section of walling stands about fourft high
Despite slightly different map references the SMR reports N7995 and N14033 appear to me to be duplicates.

This site has been described as a;
Bastle.
The confidence that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Possible.
