Clennell Street Cross Dyke 2

Also known as, or recorded in historical documents as; Wholehope

In the civil parish of Alwinton.
In the historic county of Northumberland (Modern Authority of Northumberland, 1974 county of Northumberland).

This bank and ditch runs along a flat ridge top from a disused Youth Hostel on Clennell Street to Kindlandlee Dean. It may have been a medieval boundary ditch to the Lordship of Kidland. "Documentary evidence suggests the large earthwork represents the work of the medieval monks of Newminster Abbey, demarcating the boundary of their pastures, but aspects of its morphology - such as the presence of pits in the bottom of the ditch - might also imply a prehistoric date." (Rushworth et al, 2005)
