Blackcleugh Bastle, Allendale

In the civil parish of Allendale.
In the historic county of Northumberland (Modern Authority of Northumberland, 1974 county of Northumberland).

The ruins of Blackcleugh bastle stand next to a tributary of the Swinhope Burn. The building measures 10.4m long by 6.6m wide and its north wall is about 1.15m thick. Although much of the building is in ruins there are several probably original features, such as blocked slit openings in the walls and the byre doorway. A later doorway is inscribed '16 WR 95' on its lintel and probably dates some alterations carried out in 1695.

This site has been described as a;
Bastle.
The confidence that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Possible.
Masonry ruins/remnants remains.
