Green Castle, Wooler

Also known as, or recorded in historical documents as; Cup and Saucer Camp; Humbleton

In the civil parish of Akeld.
In the historic county of Northumberland (Modern Authority of Northumberland, 1974 county of Northumberland).

Large mound with rampart along the top and a bank and ditch below, thought to be a possible early medieval ring motte, still visible as an earthwork. The earthwork is situated at the bend of a stream in a strongly defensive position. it consists of a large mound with a rampart along the top north west and south west faces; additional defences consist of a broad strong ditch to the south west and an outer scarped bank to the north west. Elsewhere the defences are natural and precipitous. Two silver pennies of Edward I have been found on the site.

This site has been described as a;
Timber Castle.
The confidence that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Certain.
Earthworks remains.

This site is a scheduled monument protected by law.
