Chipping Wardon

Also known as, or recorded in historical documents as; Arbury Camp; Arbury Banks

In the civil parish of Chipping Warden.
In the historic county of Northamptonshire (Modern Authority of Northamptonshire, 1974 county of Northamptonshire).

Said to be castle here which King locates in Oxon. I'm not sure if King is actually referring to Chipping Warden, or to a site in Oxon but to which Chipping Warden is the nearest town, or to a place called Chipping Wardon (to which I can find no reference). Chipping Wardon does appear to have been an alternative spelling of Chipping Warden in C16. There is a round earthwork called Arbury Camp said to be "presumably of iron age date" surronded by medieval field system at SP494486. This has a mound on the southern rampart, called 'windmill mound' in PastScape.

This site has been described as a;
Timber Castle.
The confidence that this site is a medieval fortification or palace is Questionable.
Earthworks remains.
